  1. Support Cooper and the Local Scouts

So one of our junior members, Cooper Neely, was in yesterday. He was sporting his Cub Scouts uniform and made a beeline for my office. He came in and said, “I’ve got lots of choices for lots of money,” as he put his fundraising sheet in front of me.

After some questions about the products he was selling, and after noticing that I only ranked 19th on his hit list, he finally made a sale.

In all seriousness, Scouting is a great thing for a kid to be involved with and it teaches lots of life skills. If you want to support Cooper in his scout fundraising, let us know and we will pass your information on to him.

Trust me on this, it’s worth the price just watching him trying to make a sale. I’m still smiling from yesterday. Cooper, you crack me up pal!

  5. Bernie Had Quite The Golf Ball Collection

To say that Bernie Lucas loved playing golf might rank as one of the biggest understatements of all time. He was introduced to the game when he was around 16 years old, and from that time on, he was hooked.

About 27 years ago, Bernie began collecting logo’d golf balls. A logo’d golf ball is a regular golf ball that has the logo or name of a golf course or company imprinted on it, and is typically used for marketing or given out as a momento. It’s a lot of fun collecting golf balls with the various logo’s, and Bernie certainly had a lot of fun, accumulating more than 4,000 balls through the time this article was written five years ago.

Here’s a link to a story that appeared in the Penobscot Times about his collection back in 2012:

Sadly, Bernie passed away earlier this week. In honor of Bernie and his passion for golf, Bernie’s golf ball collection will be on permanent display for everyone to enjoy at Hidden Meadows Golf Course, beginning sometime next spring.

Bernie, we’re sure going to miss you, and I promise, we’ll never forget you.

  6. Longtime Hidden Meadows Member Bernie Lucas Passes Away

We received some sad news this morning that longtime Hidden Meadows member, Bernie Lucas, passed away last night.

Bernie, along with his brother Ken (Choppy) and best friend Rand Trembley, were a fixture here at the course, playing three or four days a week. In his younger days, he played off a three handicap and up until he started having some back issues, could still get around the course in the low 40’s for nine holes.

Bernie worked at Hidden Meadows for several years during the mid-2000’s when his family owned the course. He’d go around the course fixing ball marks, replacing divots, sanding tees….all things that most golfers would never notice or appreciate unless it wasn’t done. He took great pride in the course, and would always make sure to compliment our grounds crew on the nice job they were doing. (more…)

  7. Fall Days Are Great For Golf!

Yesterdays rain was much needed. This morning it’s absolutely gorgeous. What a great fall morning to play some golf. Come on out, the course is in great shape and the greens are the best they’ve ever been.

  8. 3rd Annual ASA Girls SoftBall Held at Hidden Meadows GC

The ASA Girls Softball organization had their 3rd Annual Golf Tournament at Hidden Meadows GC on Sunday. 20 teams participated in the fundraiser, which is used to fund an annual scholarship and to support the organization.

The team of Dakota Madden, Dillon Leland, Austin Soucy and Bryce Richards tied for the low round of the day with the team of Greg Burby, Donnie Gross, Steve Henigan and John Higgins. Both teams shot 61, with Madden’s team taking the top spot after the tie-breaker countback.

Bob Leighton, Mike Legasse, Dave Brewer and Ken White finished 3rd with 63, followed by Brian Day, Matt Day, Brian Tewhey and Adam Pollack, who also shot 63. Peter Fournier, Adam Fournier, Brent Fournier and Corey Fournier shot 64 to finish in 5th place.

A big thank you to Bob Leighton and his team of at least 15 volunteers that brought this tournament together. Great job everyone!
